Vincent Hugonnot is a French bryologist specializing in the taxonomy, floristics, ecology, biogeography and conservation of bryophytes. After studying plant biology, he obtained a postgraduate degree in ecological engineering from the University of Orsay in 1995. For more than 25 years, he has conducted bryological surveys and research throughout France and Europe, with particular interests in rare and threatened species, bryophyte communities, biogeography and conservation.
He works as a professional bryologist within the Pépin-Hugonnot consultancy in central France and has authored several hundred scientific and technical publications on bryophytes. His work has made an important contribution to the documentation of the French bryoflora, including numerous floristic, ecological and taxonomic studies.
Vincent Hugonnot is also the author or co-author of several major identification works and floras. Together with Jaoua Celle and Florine Pépin, he published Mousses & hépatiques de France, an identification manual for common French species. With Jeannette Leica Chavoutier, he is co-author of the ongoing comprehensive Les Bryophytes de France, including the volume on hornworts and liverworts published in 2021 and the volume covering pleurocarpous mosses and Sphagnales published in in 2024.
He received with Leica Chavoutier the IAB “Hattori Price” in 2023 for the first volume of the “les Bryophytes de France“.
