I was born in Imamoglu, a relatively small district of Adana (Turkey), and grew up in a house with a large garden. After school, I enjoyed spending time in the garden playing with plants, insects and soil. Climbing trees was a passion for me and my interest in living things blossomed in those years. With this passion, I chose the biology department at university and my interest in botanical science deepened even more. I graduated from Atatürk University, Department of Biology in 1998. Later, when I started my Master’s Degree at Nigde Ömer Halisdemir University, my adventure with bryophytes began. I did my master’s thesis on bryophyte systematics and gained important experience on their morphological, anatomical and ecological characteristics. At Çukurova University, where I started my doctoral studies, I started to study the bryophyte flora and epiphytic bryophyte vegetation of Mount Musa in the southern part of the Amanos Mountains (Hatay). My curiosity about the world of these tiny miracles of nature led me on an adventure full of unforgettable memories during my land studies.
In 2008, I completed my Doctorate and started to work as Asst. Prof. Dr. at Nigde Ömer Halisdemir University. On my return to Nigde, I led a project on the bryophyte diversity of Aladaglar National Park, one of the most important national parks in Turkey, with the support of Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBITAK). I carried out floristic, phytosociological and ecological studies on bryophytes in natural areas in different regions of Turkey. Now I am carrying out a project to investigate the bryoflora of the Bolkar Mountains.
I am currently working as a Professor at Nigde Ömer Halisdemir University. My aim is to contribute to the conservation of biodiversity by emphasising the importance of botany and specifically bryophytes both in Turkey and in the world and to train young researchers who will study bryophytes.
